Festive Series: Last Minute Quick and Easy Treats

Hello there! Those of you that are vigilant will notice that I've had bit of a change around of my blog design in time for Christmas! I'm really happy with how it looks, and I hope you are too. I cannot believe that we have now reached the final instalment of my festive series and that Christmas is only two days away! I hope you've enjoyed this series as much I have; I will definitely be doing another one next year. For the final post of this years series I will be showing you how to make these last minute treats! They're really quick to make so if you are in need of some  snacks for over Christmas but don't have much time, these will be perfect for you.

Candy Cane Marshmallows

You will need:
-Giant marshmallows (I bought mine from the American sweet section of Tesco)
-Candy canes (I picked mine up from Poundland)
-Chocolate bar

First of all you will need to measure the candy cane up against the marshmallow. Cut this to size and be sure to save the bottom!

Push the candy cane into marshmallow. Repeat this for all of the candy canes/marshmallows that you'll be using!

Put all of the candy cane ends into a bag, twist the bag so that there is no holes for bits of the candy canes to escape, and break the candy canes up with a rolling pin to create small pieces. Put all of the pieces into a small dish.

Now you need to melt some chocolate! How much you melt will depend on how many candy cane marshmallows you want to make. As I was making six I melted a small amount, and if you don't melt enough you can always melt some more! I melted the chocolate by putting it in the microwave on the highest setting for 10 second bursts, and I stirred in-between until it was all melted. It's up to you which sort of chocolate you want to use! I decided to use dark chocolate.

Once the chocolate is all melted, you need to take the marshmallow and dip it in, before rolling this into your candy cane pieces. Place these onto some greaseproof paper, and once you have done this to all of the marshmallows, place them in the fridge to set for about 15 minutes.
To add a bit more colour to these I put some sprinkles over too, as I found once you had put the chocolate into the candy cane pieces, they started to become covered in chocolate and so it wasn't as easy to see the colour of the pieces.

Melted Snowmen Biscuits

You will need:
-Digestive biscuits (or a round biscuit of your choice)
-Regular sized marshmallows
-Glacé icing

First of all you will need to make up some glacé icing in a cup. Again you can always make some more if needs be! Simply mix some icing sugar with a small bit of water (be careful to add small amounts of water at a time as there is a fine line between it being perfect and being too runny! If it becomes too runny, simply add some more icing sugar until it's a thick consistency).

Spoon some icing onto the biscuit, and this needs to be wiggly as opposed to perfect so it looks like the snowman has melted.
Pop a marshmallow onto the icing and this becomes the snowman's head.

Using some writing icing, draw a face onto the snowman, and then some lines for arms/buttons on the icing. After making this one I found it was easier to draw the snowman's face on first, before putting it onto the biscuit.

Once you have done this for all of your biscuits, your melted snowmen are ready!

Whilst I was making these the candy cane marshmallows had set, and so you can put all of your treats together.

I'm so happy with how these all came out, and as they're so quick and easy to make they are perfect for any last minute festive treat needs. I think these would be perfect to make with children, especially if they make some to give to Father Christmas!

As always if you make any of these, or anything from my festive series, please let me know how they go. I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas!
