Chocolate Brownie Cake

You know I love baking, eating cake, and anything that involves chocolate, so when I found this recipe for a chocolate brownie cake in Tanya Bakes I knew I had to make it with Tom. This is actually really easy to make, and oh my does it taste good. It's essentially like eating melted chocolate in a block that's squishy with a top layer that's like cake. Basically, it's really yummy and you should all give it a go!

Back to Reading

As an English student at uni, all I ever seemed to have was an endless amount of reading and because I was always focused on course reading, I never had much time for reading outside the course. Since graduating six months ago and actually finishing my course eight months ago, you could say that I had a bad relationship with reading books. I think having been told for so long what to read, or at least a topic to read around, it suddenly seemed a bit daunting being able to choose a book to read because I wanted to, as opposed to having to.
Although I did still read books, I hadn't found anything that excited and really compelled me to read until recently. The book that got me back into reading was The Girl on the Train, and I think it helped that inadvertently I was reading it at the same time as a colleague which meant we could talk about it. I think I missed having this interaction with people who were reading the same book, as I always enjoyed going to seminars and discussing the set text for that week, and this was missing post-graduation. I also have a longer lunch break in my new job and this has helped me actually get into a book and has been a nice break from a computer screen. It's made me want to venture out into different types of fiction, and find which ones I genuinely enjoy and which ones I can live without.
It's so nice to finally have back the spark of enjoyment for reading that has been missing for a while. I love finding out what everyone's favourite books are, because it's so nice when you recommend a book to someone and they get as much enjoyment out of it as you did. What are some of your favourite books to read? I'd love to have a variety to choose from on my 'to read' list, so please do leave recommendations in the comments!

2016

2016 has come and gone; we're suddenly a week into 2017 and the new year is fully underway. It doesn't seem that long ago that I posted my 6 things for 2016, and when I actually sit down and think about it, my life is completely different now to what it was this time last year. When I get to the start of a new year, as well as thinking about the year ahead, I like to reflect back upon the last year and everything that happened.
The year started off with a trip to see Tom's brother in Durham (which was extremely cold) and we soon returned to essay writing and exam revision. Around this time I signed up to be a member of borrowmydoggy and soon I was taking out the adorable Wilson on a weekly basis. Tom and I celebrated our 6th anniversary (it's nearly come around to our 7th!) by taking a trip away to Lincoln and a week after a trip to York for Valentine's Day. Friends birthdays were celebrated and the annual Varsity between Uni of Sheffield and Hallam came around which saw another trip to the ice hockey match. Unfortunately I had to say goodbye to one of my bestest friends of the last ten years around Easter time, and we all miss her dearly; it's so lovely especially with Tilly when we meet a Cavalier out on a walk and get to have a cuddle with them.
